My S.O.U.L. experience has been incredible so far! I have been serving at St. Joseph’s Neighborhood Center, a healthcare center for uninsured and underinsured people in the Rochester area. The center depends on volunteer healthcare providers, other volunteers like myself, and donations from the community. Everyone at the center is welcoming, positive, and determined to provide the best care for patients, whether it be through counseling, dental or medical care, or referrals. So far at the center, I have helped sort donations of bread, organize patient files, find addresses, write letters, and help the PR department, among other things.

Besides volunteering at the center, I really enjoyed serving at Bethany House, a homeless shelter for women and their children. I packaged diapers and put together hygiene bags. I loved serving there, especially knowing that I was making a difference in the lives of homeless mothers and their children.

I love staying with the Sisters! They have been so loving and welcoming to us. One night we went to the motherhouse for supper, and I really enjoyed talking with the Sisters and hearing about their ministries and their personal experiences.

Throughout my S.O.U.L. trip, I have learned so much! I have made friends within and outside of our group. I have learned a lot about myself and have grown in my faith through daily prayer and reflections with the Sisters. I have served many people in the community, and I am so grateful that I had the opportunity to come to Rochester!
