Right after the academic year ends, we will be traveling to Homeboy Industries to be immersed in the work of Fr. Greg Boyle, S.J.  This trip will involve spending time with community members who are actively working to curb violence and make their neighborhood safer for their children.

Students will learn how gangs, poverty, addiction, and mental illness have affected the East LA area as well as what committed people are doing to care for others and work toward systematic change.  This trip will have a strong emphasis on learning about Catholic Social Teaching and experiencing how one community lives, prays, and works together.

We have a maximum of 12 students who can participate, and we expect for high levels of interest.  Please ensure that you answer the questions thoughtfully and completely.  Participants will be selected based on reflection answers and immersion experience.

Scholarships are available by contacting Colleen Dunne at cdunne@smumn.

We will leave on Saturday evening, May 13, flying from MSP to LAX and will return Saturday, May 20.  Transportation, meals, and lodging will be provided.

Applications are open now and require a $100 deposit.  Cost of the trip is dependent on how soon you register, with the remaining amount due when we leave.  Final deadline for registration is March 24.
